Abstract

This study is to investigate the effects of Taekwondo Poomsae exercise on physical fitness and static & dynamic balance abilities for Elementary school children. The participants were divided into two groups: Poomsae exercise group (EG, n=20) and Control group (CG, n=20). The EG took part in the Taekwondo Poomsae exercise program for 12 weeks. The results of this study are as follows: First, there were significant increase in muscle strength, muscle endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and agility in EG compared with CG after 12 weeks. Second, there were significant increase in static and dynamic balance abilities in EG compared with CG after 12 weeks. In conclusion, this study confirmed that Taekwondo Poomsae exercise program could improve the physical fitness and balance abilities of Elementary school children.
