Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the cultural codes in the English and Russian riddles about natural phenomena and objects. The article deals with the lexical units that metaphorically describe the denotation of the riddle. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that this work compares the cultural codes that describe the world around and represent the specifics of the English and Russian linguocultures. The results of the study demonstrate that in the Russian and English riddles, both similar means of metaphorical coding and culturally determined codes that represent the specifics of the perception and description of natural phenomena by representatives of the studied linguocultures function.
