Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine child care time between double-income and single-income fathers with preschool children. Data were gathered from the Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys in 2019 (n=1,636). The fathers were categorized into two groups (double-income vs. single-income) in order to compare fathers’ child care time by their spouses’ employment status. Major results were found as follows. First, double-income fathers spend more time on child care than single-income fathers, and the participation ratio was higher than their counterparts. Second, age differences were significant only in single-income fathers, and educational differences were significant in both groups. Third, in the regression analysis of the single-income group, educational level and non-household time were significant in determining fathers’ child care time, while age, income, non-household time, and commute time were significant in double-income fathers’ child care time.
