Abstract

Objectives This study attempted to examine the effectiveness of domestic online-based depression relief pro-grams using meta-analysis methods.
Methods For this purpose, a total of 13 papers that met the analysis criteria were selected among domestic on-line-based depression relief program studies in which the general population, adolescents and adults with de-pressive symptoms, and the elderly participated until 2022. The random effect model was selected to calculate the overall average effect size, average effect size according to mediating variables, and average effect size ac-cording to dependent variables other than depression.
Results As a result of calculating the effect size of the papers subject to analysis, the overall average effect size was 0.6, which was medium size. Looking at the average effect size according to the mediating variable, the study subjects had an effect regardless of the clinical group excluding the general group in terms of depression level, presence or absence of facility use, dementia, and cognitive function. The operating method was found to be most effective when the total number of sessions was less than 10, the number of sessions per week was once a week, the implementation period was 8 weeks or less, and the time per session was between 30 and 60 minutes. Regarding content types, the effect size for Internet web and virtual reality was medium, and mobile applications were not significant. The effect size by program type was medium for cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive train-ing and cognitive rehabilitation therapy, and convergence therapy. Among convergence treatments, programs combining cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy appeared to be the most effective, and the aver-age effect size for dependent variables other than depression showed that all emotion-related variables were ef-fective, but the effect size for social skills was insufficient. It is worth paying attention.
Conclusions These results are meaningful in providing basic data on an effective domestic online-based depres-sion alleviation program and suggest directions for follow-up research.
