Abstract

The article provides a functional-semantic analysis of comparative constructions with the meaning of visual size in common epic formulas of the Yakut epos olonkho. To describe comprehensively the lexico-semantic and grammatical structure of epic formulas, the author uses interlinear morphemic glossing according to Leipzig Glossing Rules. A structural-semantic analysis allows identifying the component structure of five epic formulas containing comparative constructions with the postpositions “саҕа” and “курдук”; their unique semantic structure is examined and described. The researcher concludes that in the olonkho expressive language, the comparative constructions under study transfer not only the meaning of quantity but a wide spectrum of other meanings.
