Abstract

Introduction. The relevance of the topic of the presented article is justified by the changes in the regulatory conditions and the social situation for the functioning of dissertation councils. In the first case we are talking about the creation of a new model of awarding academic degrees; in the second case about the growth of requirements to the quality of dissertation research. The aim of the work is to reach an understanding of a dissertation as a research project through the analysis of qualification and scientific criteria of competence. Methods. The article is written within the neopositivist paradigm and is conceptualized in terms of the operationalist approach. Results and their discussion. The research of qualification and scientific criteria of dissertation consistency, as well as our own experience of work in dissertation councils has led us to the following results: 1) work with the text of theses should be preceded by a systematic study of the existing discourse on the social problem; 2) practical recommendations should take up the volume of the last paragraph of the theses; 3) internal unity is ensured by using the algorithmic-modular approach, according to which every module of the text has its own rules; 4) the theses are to be integrated into the overall system of theses and dissertations.
