Abstract

The article overviews the experience gained by the Siberian Chemical Combine in dealing with radioactive waste management and nuclear decommissioning challenges. It provides a particularly detailed discussion on the decommissioning efforts implemented at a production facility previously operated at the site No. 3 of its Radiochemical Plant and engaged in the reprocessing of irradiated standard uranium slugs (ISUS). This case study exemplifies SCC’s consistent efforts focused on digital models representing large production facilities, that provided a basis for relevant design specifications and estimates developed in an entirely digital format. The paper also overview the cleanup activities implemented at storage pools B-1 and B-2. The paper considers SCC’s active engagement in the Proryv project as a standalone achievement strengthening its position as a leading nuclear enterprise in Russia.
