Abstract

The author presents his view on the difficult processes of transformation of mass political culture in Ukrainian society at the turn of the XX–XXI century, which resulted from the formation of the information society and the lack of experience in building an independent Ukrainian state. The author emphasizes that due to historical conditions, the Ukrainian elite and mass society was psychologically prone to the situation in Ukraine today. Analyzing the formation of the mass political culture of Ukrainians, the author notes that for the first time the famous Ukrainian social philosopher V. Lypynsky drew attention to its peculiarity. He directly addressed the bearers of mass culture in letters to the brothers-farmers. The author argues that the management of the state on the basis of mass culture is a natural stage of its development in the information format of societies. Impressive urbanization, speed of information transfering, populist slogans such as “Bread and spectacles” became the stimulators of a new stage of development of virtual reality of Ancient Greece and Rome. Today, the transformation processes in the environment of mass culture are little studied in terms of the formation of negative and often antihuman currents in their development. If before the beginning of the XX century such currents were a threat to individuals or small social groups, then from the beginning of the XXI century began to form threats not only to individual societies, but also to the whole world community. According to the author, in modern science there is a need for innovative research of processes that take place in the environment of mass culture. Such research should be aimed at studying the causal relationships, content and value bases of the phenomenon and the format of information development of societies. The political elite of the European community needs to have a good understanding of the trends of new transformations in order to be ready for legal acts adequate to the modern principles of democracy and to answer to possible anti-social challenges.
