Abstract

This study investigates the intake status and satisfaction of home-delivered meal boxes for children from low-income families. In March 2021, 892 children in Seongnam-city, Gyeonggi-do were surveyed to determine the intake status, importance, and satisfaction of using meal boxes. A total of 859 children were included in the final analysis, comprising 422 male (49.1%) and 437 female (50.7%) children. Totally, 65.3% of all children answered that they cannot cook or are unable to cook by themselves. The hygiene factors of meal boxes were the highest in both importance (3.66 of 4 points) and satisfaction (3.08 points). As a result of Importance-Satisfaction Analysis matrix of the delivery meal box, the meal boxes for children were analyzed for ‘taste’, ‘combination of side dish’, and ‘menu choices’ in quadrant Ⅱ(focus here), which was the main area for improvement. As the preferred meal support method, most subjects opted for and answered ‘meal box (3.18 points)’. In terms of the expected health improvement in children, male children answered ‘meal box and G-dream card (33.2%)’ whereas female children answered ‘meal box (34.9%)’. The results of this study can be used as basic data for supporting policies on how to provide meals for children from low-income families.
