Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of Xavier de Maistreʼs novella ‘La Jeune Sibérienne’ (1815). The novella can be considered an important feature of the Russian-French literary relations in the first half of the nineteenth century. Moreover, it was one of the works that was responsible for the stereotype of religiosity, especially of the Russian woman, as the basis of Russian spirituality that helped to create the myth of the “mysterious Russian soul” in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Europe.
