Abstract

A heat exchanger with heat storage is used to provide a stable supply of heat source produced from industrial waste heat or a complementary operation as a short-time emergency heat source of industrial heat pump system. In this study, basic heat transfer behavior of the double shell and tube type heat exchanger with a phase change material (PCM) designed by authors was observed through heat storage/release experiments. The experimental device consisted of a heat exchanger, waste heat water supply line, and brine circulation line, to investigate characteristics of heat storage/release according to temperature of the waste heat water. Temperature of waste heat water, brine and PCM were measured during the experiment. As a result, heat transfer rate of PCM in the heat exchanger is influenced by the supply pattern of waste heat water during heat storage and release. Results of this study may be used as basic design data of regenerative evaporator of high temperature heat pump (HTHP) that produces steam using industrial waste heat.
