Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to understand the life he wants and understand of mid-life transition through the experience of deciding to change jobs of a mid-life office worker in his 40s. Methods For this study, participation observation was conducted once, and data were collected through photos, local data prepared by research participants, and three in-depth interviews. The collected data analysis classified common topics and concepts by creating a concept word card with emic coding and structural coating. Results Data analysis classified common topics and concepts into emic coding and structural coatings. As a result, the reasons for the decision to change jobs were “backside of long-term service” and “difficult company situation,” and the working conditions desired for the job change were “leisure of time” and “guarantee of holidays. The reasons for the change in turnover conditions were ‘personal consideration of turnover’, ‘weak importance of salary’, and ‘financial technology-needlement, investment, and incorporation’. Conclusions This study confirmed that middle-aged transition jobs need preparation and support in order to choose or implement a better life. We hope that the results of this study will be an opportunity to think about what to consider in the decision to turnover for middle-aged men and what practical methods and countermeasures are for the happiness of all family members.
