Abstract
The article is devoted to the first director of the Geological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union Vladimir Obruchev. The reasons for his election and his connection with the Institute throughout his life are considered. Attention is paid to the creation, on the initiative of Obruchev, of a new field of geosciences at the Institute – the history of geological knowledge. The work with the scientific heritage of academician Vladimir Obruchev is highlighted.
