Abstract

Nowadays, medicinal plants are not only a source of plant raw materials for a large number of medicinal and preventative means, but also a source of income for individual agricultural enterprises and households. However, despite the considerable demand currently available for medicinal plants, their production volumes in our country are very small. In this regard, the research in the development of medicinal plants and the factors that influence it are necessary. The purpose of the article is to analyze the impact of enterprise’s specialization on the production of medicinal crops. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were accomplished - the households were divided into groups according to the total sowing area of medicinal, aromatic and essential-oil plants, the division of the studied households by the sowing area of medicinal plants (excluding essential-oil and aromatic) and the analysis of the grouping were performed. The study covered 213 agricultural businesses operating in 2017 in agriculture and reporting to state statistical authorities as producers of medicinal plants, including aromatic and essential-oil. Thus, the methods of statistical grouping and economic analysis are applied within this study. The application of these methods reveal that in terms of production of medicinal plants (without essential-oil and aromatic) in the field of agricultural production, large enterprises with acreage of more than 100 ha are leading, and small enterprises are leaders in the level of yield. Medium and large enterprises are leading in terms of revenue. Accordingly, the specialization of the enterprise in the field of medicinal plants has a significant impact on the development of production of medicinal crops. One can consider the factor of specialization as one of the guidelines for effective development of medicinal plants in the present conditions.
