Abstract
The article is devoted to the results of the study of Turkish and Balkan influences on the appearance of the Hungarian expression and social category of „Hajduks” as well as the specific phases of the development of Hungarian Hajduks. We can conclude that there are sevaral theories in Hungarian historiography in connection with the development of the term „Hajduks”. The most popular explanation is that in the beginning the South Slavs who escaped Turkish occupation and brought their name and specific way of life with them to Hungary were called Hajduks. The emergence of Hajduks can be traced since Turkish threat. The power vacuum that developed between the Ottoman Empire and Habsburg Empire in the sixteenth century contributed to the appearance of the Hungarian Hajduks in the borderland regions that they settled
