Abstract
The article describes the peculiarities of the formation and development of the private secondary school in Ukraine in the late XVIII and the first half of the XIX century. The types of private secondary schools have been considered, normative and legal bases for their activities have been singled out and analyzed. It has been proved that the development of the private secondary school in Ukraine within the stated chronological limits had its own peculiarities such as a pendular nature and tendency to fall under the influence of political and socio-economic factors.
