Abstract
This scholarly article is an overview of the conflicts in Central Asia in the 1990s. The article analyzes the main causes of regional conflicts. The negative impact of the ethno-religious factor on regional stability is analyzed. In addition, the influence of insufficient water resources on the foreign policy of Central Asian countries is analyzed. Also the destabilizing role of extremist groups in the last decade of the 20th century.
