Abstract

The article examines some aspects of Turkey’s foreign policy in the 1980–1990s, during the time when Turgut Ozal was in power. The study of this issue in the context of political biography of a particular figure is condi-tioned by the fact that in Turkish practical politics the personal factor is of key importance. The problem is stud-ied on the basis of media sources and academic works. The two most important areas of Turkey’s foreign activ-ity are considered – integration with Western Europe, Armenian and Kurdish issues. These external problems are the most significant for Turkey’s internal development. T. Ozal come to be seen in the history of Turkish politics as a figure who was the first to outline its main strategic directions for the following decades, which are relevant up to the present moment.
