Abstract

Recently, the role of mass media communication has been growing, and there has been increase in verbal influence on public consciousness in the mass media. Journalists and TV presenters use various tropes and figures of speech actively thereby attracting the audience’s attention to their materials. The linguistic component is also complemented by visual means of expression, such as picture, cut, graphics, and musical accompaniment. All together it forms a powerful suggestive effect. The author considers the use of tropes in the news programs of modern domestic TV channels and the mechanisms of their impact on the audience.
