Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a primary English citizenship learning program in which English and social studies are integrated using realistic picture books. Three research questions were set up to design the program including facilitating strategies. The program was devised considering the following process. First, the researcher developed the program for primary English learners considering learner factors and reading process. Second, input guidance was planned using various scaffolding strategies to facilitate learning of language, content and learning skills. Primary English learners’ linguistic, cognitive and affective factors were taken into consideration. Third, the researcher revised the learning model and selected representative activities based on opinions of three English teachers. Finally, based on the results, some pedagogical implications were provided.
