Abstract

The study aims to identify the conditions under which Maoism emerged and adapted in Peru as a new development path of radical political ideology. The article analyses the issues relating to emergence of radical socialist movements, their evolution and competition in historical-political process. Special attention is paid to development of the Maoist philosophy and power struggle between its followers that took place in the party until 1980, which gave rise to the Maoist organisation “Sendero Luninoso”. Scientific novelty of the work lies in studying the ideological factors that influenced formation of Peruvian Maoism. As a result, it was proved that success of Maoism in Peru was predicated upon inclusion of local ideology based on J. C. Mariátegui’s teaching into the Maoist doctrine.
