Abstract

The article raises topical issues of modern theatre education. The author is looking for the answers to the questions raised from his teaching experience and based on the professional experience of his colleagues and predecessors. The timely development of the imagination of a first-year student of the acting department is an urgent task when studying at a theatre university. The article proposes algorithms for solving this problem, built on a professional practices. At the same time, several more issues are considered: the social nature and the influence of the socio-cultural background on forming the personality of modern young adults. The relationship between nowadays social phenomena and the peculiarities of the mentality development of the younger generation appeal for the need to use a complex of means to activate the imagination. Those ones inducing a genuine aesthetic impression, forming the ability to distinguish a simulacrum from the original, to become emotionally involved in private stories of people snatched from the crowd. The improvement and development of group observation exercises with a wide emotional range allows the students to liberate the desire for imagination as a mean of self-knowledge.
