Abstract

The paper aims to show how authorial intention influences the narrative structure of Yu. P. Kazakov’s short story “Two in December”. The article analyses the narrator’s image, reveals its correlation with the personages’ images. Scientific originality of the study involves justifying the thesis that the narrative and syntactic peculiarities of Yu. P. Kazakov’s short story are determined by authorial intention. The conducted research allows concluding that the work under study is an authorial short story with the exegetic narrator; it contains free indirect discourse elements which serve to express the personages’ thoughts and feelings.
