Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of endurance training on reducing bone mineral density (BMD) caused by irregular sleep cycle.BR Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a regular sleep cycle (RS) group (light on 08:00 to 20:00)and an irregular sleep cycle (IS) group(3 days light on: 08:00~20:00, 3 days light on: 20:00~08:00), and circadian rhythm disruption was induced for 12 weeks. Afterwards, the IS group was divided into the ISS group and the ISEx group, and circadian rhythm disruption and/or endurance training were conducted for 12 weeks.BR Body weight and food intake according to light/dark cycle change and endurance training were measured, and BMD and bone microstructure were analyzed using micro-computed tomography (u-CT). BR Body weight, food intake and BMD were significantly different between the RS and IS groups at 12 weeks. After 12 weeks of endurance training, BMD and bone microstructure improved. BR These results demonstrated that irregular sleep cycles reduced BMD. Also, endurance training in irregular sleep cycles has been shown to improve bone health.BR
