Abstract

Language criticism, i.e. the ability of a native speaker to express their attitude to controversial items in speech practice is considered as a phenomenon of language culture in its relationship with language reflection as a person's ability to consciously choose language options in their speech activity. Linguistic variability that affects the normative characteristics of language units is interpreted as systemic phenomenon. The description of two scientific approaches to the phenomenon of language criticism - structurally descriptive and discursive ones is given.
