Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop textbooks for learners of Korean for specific academic purposes. Language for academic purposes is divided into language for general purposes and language for specific purposes. This article deals with textbooks for specific academic purposes for learners who entered university and are facing major learning. Foreign students have the greatest difficulty in lack of knowledge about the basic content of major and Korean language proficiency after entering university. Recently, the number of foreign students entering university in Korea has continuously increased. Textbooks have been developed so that they can acquire basic knowledge to take courses in university and Korean language proficiency capable of understanding lectures according to the needs of learners. However, most of them were focused on the level of understanding culture classes, speaking and listening for lecture listening and presentation, or reading and writing education for report writing. Therefore, this article focused on textbooks to understand the basic content of major subjects as a specific academic purpose and improve more than advanced Korean proficiency. This article aims to make proposals to develop a new textbook by analyzing and evaluating previously developed textbooks. To this end, this article examines whether the unit structure of the textbook is appropriate for the basic curriculum of major learning the content is appropriate for the level of learners and the textbook is useful to improve Korean language proficiency.
