Abstract

The study results of gas-cyclic nitriding of corrosion-resistant austenitic and martensitic steels with alternating atmospheres of ammonia and air in the mode of an isothermal process and a stepwise process with a final stage with reduced activity of the saturating atmosphere are discussed. The factors of improving the quality of the diffusion layer were determined, contributing to increased wear resistance and maximum preservation of steel resistance to shock loads due to reduced stresses at the boundary of the layer with the matrix.
