Abstract
The main purpose of the study is to describe dictionaries of South African English (SAE), the use of which is extremely important for both native speakers of this variant of English and people studying it. It is emphasised that a language variant requires as much careful lexicographic fixation as a separate language. Scientific novelty of the research lies in determining the range of lexicographic sources that represent SAE and analysing their micro- and macrostructure. As a result, the study has revealed the role that SAE dictionaries play in organisation of cross-cultural communication and outlined a prospect of further lexicographical work, which involves compilation and practical evaluation of dictionaries for the English-Russian language pair.
