Abstract

A new approach to sources of water bodies pollution by hydrocarbon fuels identification is presented. The approach implementation includes contaminated water and HCF from possible pollution sources sampling, separating HCF from water for the sample being analyzed and the comparison samples obtaining, dark oil products atmospheric pressure distillation for light fractions obtaining, the values of physical and chemical parameters of HCF and their fractions determination, and IR spectra obtaining. Using the data obtained for the sample being analyzed by capillary gas chromatography in the high-performance simulated distillation mode the sample fractions boiling points and the classification coefficient K values are calculated. On those data base the group, the subgroup, the brand of HCF and the production process type for the fuels with equal K-values are determined, and the chromatograms coincidence coefficient N is calculated. The spill source identification is based on the elicitation of the comparison sample, which N-coefficient of chromatographic coincidence with the sample being analyzed is maximum. The developed approach application enables prompt identification of water bodies pollution sources and its results reliability as well.
