Abstract

This study aimed to establish a bioethics education system for Catholic seminarians and provide basic resources by developing a short-term education program based on personalist bioethics. Modern seminarians must correctly understand the true value of human dignity in the face of problems such as contraception, abortion, homosexuality, and euthanasia, which are increasing due to the development of biotechnology and medicine. This is so that they can help faithfuls as pastors in the future. Personalism is necessary for this education because it views humans as “persons,” a unity of body and soul, and can communicate the true value of human dignity. However, except for the curriculum of the Theological Seminary at The Catholic University of Korea, there was no independent course for bioethics. Therefore, we developed and operated a short-term personalist bioethics education program incorporating debate, lectures, and problem-based learning (PBL) methods, which are expected to be effective in ethics education.
