Abstract

The article considers the negotiation process between the European Union and Russia on the introduction of the visa-free regime. Since the 1990s, there has been an intensification of bilateral contacts at different levels. Understanding of the need to simplify cross-border bureaucratic procedures has come. Within the framework of repeated bilateral negotiations between Russia and the EU, many agreements on visa facilitation have been concluded and worked out. But due to a number of technical and political problems, it is not possible to come to the mutual abolition of visas. The paper studies the entire bilateral negotiation process taking into account the latest developments. For the first time the author also reveals the essential contradictions regarding the abolition of visas with the Russian Federation within the European Union itself.
