Abstract

This study attempted to identify the demands and perceptions of neighborhood park users for health promotion and to present implications. The subjects of the study were 500 Seoul citizens, and an online survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire. The survey period was from March 21, 2017 to March 27, 2017, for a total of 7 days. The main purpose of use of the neighborhood park was exercise, and within 20 minutes on foot, within 2 hours of staying time, and in the afternoon, regardless of the time of day and day of the week were high. However, there was a significant difference between the use groups aged 65 or older and younger. Neighborhood park demand for health promotion has high interest in health, but the use of neighborhood parks is relatively low, and it is found that they are mainly used alone or for walking purposes. They said they were willing to pay less than 500,000 won for the park program. Recognition of the environment of the neighborhood park showed that the convenience of visiting and facility convenience was good, but the park operation and management, especially safety, was relatively low. Convenience of facilities in neighborhood parks was the most influential in overall satisfaction, and convenience facilities, trails, and sports facilities were the main factors. In the future, if services such as additional installation of sports facilities in the neighborhood park and expansion of patrols for security are improved, the number of uses will increase to more than five times a week, indicating the expectation. In order to promote health, this study should be complemented in terms of park operation and management, such as safety and program operation, as well as expansion of facilities for users.
