Abstract

The article deals with a relevant and little-studied topic – the use of VR technology in coverage of sports events at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Thanks to VR technologies, the viewer is able to feel as if they’re at the event, which is important in sports journalism and sports promotion.To study the chosen issue, we examined materials of foreign and Russian scientists, media representatives, broadcasts of sporting events, and journalistic materials. The article describes the history of the use of VR technologies in athletic training and analyzes international coverage, thus identifies the countries where virtual reality is of interest. The article presents a scientific review of the established theories and approaches and the use of virtual reality in professional sports, active video games, and sports journalism. Currently, there are few broadcasts using virtual reality in Russia, but nevertheless, this format is becoming more popular every year. The authors considered the specifics of information transfer using virtual reality gadgets and special equipment. As a result, the features of the use of VR technologies in sports journalism are reflected.
