Abstract

Introduction. The article examines impacts of the region’s age-sex structure on actual workforce numbers. Goals. The paper aims to investigate factors underlying the decrease in working-age population and, consequently, the Republic’s labor force at large. Materials and methods. The work employs tools of comparative analysis for insights into available statistical data on a number of indicators, such as age-sex structure, workforce proper, age-sex standardized mortality rates, and negative migration balance. Results. The analysis of statistical materials shows a decrease in working-age population largely rooted in the general population decrease across the Republic and high mortality rates among working-age men, both aggravated by increased women’s migration trends.
