Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop and validate the pandemic-related parental difficulty scale for parents of preschoolers (PRPDS). To do this, the literature on COVID-19 stress and parents of preschoolers during COVID-19 was analyzed, and related data on the components were collected. Based on collected data, the constituent factors were extracted, and the final draft was constructed. The final draft was developed with the evaluation scale through a verification process of validity and reliability. It was analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 programs. The subjects used in this study were 638 parents of preschoolers who made assessment [293 Exploratory Factor Analysis(EFA), 345 Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA)]. The pandemic-related parental difficulty scale for parents of preschooler developed in this study was composed of 34 questionnaires of following 5 factors: Anxiety about child development (9 questionnaires), increased parenting burden (8 questionnaires), increased family conflict (6 questions), anxiety about infection (6 questions), and economic difficulties (5 questions). As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was found to be an appropriate model, and the conceptual reliability, convergence validity, and discriminant validity were all satisfied. The reliability (Cronbach’ ) of these factors ranged from .947 to .980, and the total value of Cronbach’s was found to be .983. These results demonstrate that the pandemic-related parental difficulty scale for parents of preschoolers developed in this study is a valid and reliable tool.
