Abstract

In this study, ‘Mathematical expression connection’ and ‘Mathematical expression transformation’ patterns were analyzed to see if activities related to expressions appearing in competency-based mathematics education programs for gifted students and elementary mathematics textbooks were appropriately constructed from the standpoint of establishing internal connectivity between various mathematical objects. I got the same conclusion. First, it was found that there needed to be more opportunities to observe the presented equations in terms of the expression connection aspect, express them as phenomena, and interpret new expressions, mathematical relationships, and thought processes. Second, from the viewpoint of the expression transformation aspect, the purpose of transforming the expression was mostly the process of deriving the value of the expression. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement the activities of transforming expressions in various directions.
