Abstract

The problem of application of the integrated approach to professional foreign language training of prospective specialists of tourism studies is considered. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), that is based on the parallel acquisition of professional and linguistic competencies, is covered through the prism of the integrated approach. The main components of the CLIL are: content (the process of knowledge, skill and ability mastering within the subject which is being studied), communication (the development of written and oral meaningful communication), cognition (the development of cognitive skills), culture (cultural knowledge, aimed at understanding of own and foreign culture). The main principles are identified (creativity, orientation towards self-development and self-education, variability, multicultural self-determination of the individual, tolerance, cultural dialogue) and goals (the formation of the coherent picture of the world, new skills and abilities, creative and tolerant individual, moral values, key competencies) of the integrated approach in professional foreign language training of prospective tourism studies specialists.The discipline “Foreign language for professional purpose” for the students of speciality “Tourism” is considered as an integrated course. The sources of integration are language and professional skills and knowledge. The above-mentioned approach allows to combine language and professional material into thematic sections. The inclusion of the thematic sections is aimed at the strengthening of the interdisciplinary connections within the integrated approach.The integrated approach helps to establish interdisciplinary connections with the discipline “Foreign language for professional purpose” and the disciplines of the professional and practical training cycle, namely: “Geography of tourism”, “Tourist country studies”, “Organization of Tours”, “Organization of Excursion Activity”, “Advertising and Information Technologies in Tourism”, “World Recreational Complexes”, “Innovations in the field of hospitality”. It will enable the integration of the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in the process of foreign language communication during the professional activity of prospective tourism studies specialists.
