Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide cases of physical education class modified games applying Newell’s constraints to overcome limitations of the current physical education class. A total of 49 students enrolled in A university were analyzed qualitatively for the modified games project. As a result, it was possible to change the perception that the teacher’s personal experience should be relied on when developing modified games. When the current physical education classes were analyzed based on Newell’s constraints such as individual, environment, and task factors, an increase in the ability to view the class more objectively could be expected. In addition, it was meaningful as a basic knowledge that can control the sudden variables of the class, so it can be expected that more effective classes will be possible when developing modified games. Various studies combining different theoretical systems, such as Newell’s constraints, are likely to be needed in the future.
