Abstract
<p>Public pension systems face due to<br />demographic changes signifi cant challenges<br />that lead to reforms and to the need to reexamine<br />of the basic priorities and policy<br />instruments in relation to pensions. One of<br />the most important aspects of reforms has<br />been the development and strengthening of<br />occupational pension funds. Besides their<br />basic characteristics, occupational pension<br />funds present basic structural differences<br />between EU countries. The present article<br />seeks to highlight these differences and the<br />basic characteristics in a variety of member<br />states.</p>
