Abstract
본고는 비상사태를 사고하는 데 지대한 영향을 미치고 있는 슈미트주의를 비판하고, 민주주의 및 시민권과 양립할 수 있는 비상사태 개념을 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 기적 개념을 중심으로 슈미트와 아렌트를 대질시킨다. 슈미트의 기적 개념이 ‘무로부터의 창조’라면, 아렌트의 기적 개념은 상대적 시작, 탄생성의 공연, 풀려남이자 회복이라는 세 가지 방식으로 이해할 수 있다. 이처럼 기적 개념을 재정의하면, 아렌트 이해에 큰 영향을 미친 노동/작업/행위 삼분법도 변하게 된다. 이 세 활동은 사물로서의 세계를 중심으로 상호의존하게 되며, 이제 행위는 노동과 작업 등의 활동을 세계를 사랑하고 돌보는 방향으로 이끄는 ‘회향’ 활동이자 이에 힘입어 세계를 황폐에서 ‘회복’ 시키는 활동이 되는바, 이는 보다 민주적이고 시민적인 비상행동을 사고하는 이론적 자원이 될 수 있다.
