Abstract

The paper is devoted to the challenges of using Content and Language Integrated Learning while developing language proficiency in the Bachelor’s degree program of “Art History” and “Museology and perseverance of cultural and natural heritage objects”. This type of educating implies getting knowledge in the sphere of future profession (“History of World Art” subject in particular) concurrently with studying a foreign language. Here the foreign language is considered to be a means of education but not a purpose of it. Many advantages of this technique usage are evident: it is more natural way of communication, which helps to realize the peculiarities of the other culture, to solve professionally-oriented cases, to navigate in the information and communication space. Specialists-to-be in the field of Art History acquire and improve the skills of foreign language communication while working with the educational materials which allow them to be confident in using these skills in the professional sphere. The practice of using Content and Language Integrated Learning is analyzed by the example of the “New Insights into Art History: from Prehistoric to Medieval” course book. Basing on the knowledge acquired while working thoroughly with the authentic texts and video resources, students do their case-studies in the particular field and it allows them to work like using the foreign language in the real professional atmosphere.
