Abstract

In this study, among the methods for improving the flood control capacity of agricultural reservoirs, a study was conducted to increase the flood control capacity below the flood season limited level through preliminary discharge. The study basin was analyzed by setting scenarios for release time, opening gates and initial level conditions for preliminary discharge for Seongju dam. As a results of the conditions that can be operate below EL. 179.7 m, which is 70 % of the effective storage capacity suggested by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the flood season level should be adjusted below EL. 180.0 m if the floodgate is opened at least 2 m under 24-hour pre-discharge conditions. Preliminary discharge does not affect the rise of downstream water level above the flood level, and it is judged that a study should be conducted to review the effect of flood control by initial water level through preliminary discharge in case of design flood of Seongju Dam.
