Abstract

This study analyzes the utilization methods of SHG loan programs in suburban rural villages near Gurugram, in relation to the transition of the 'Digital India' era. For this study, the researcher conducted anthropological fieldwork in three rural villages Gurugram, India. SHG is the Indian version of microfinance, and is known to mediate the improvement of women's economic status as well as the only financial inclusion for poor farmers. SHG in Gurugram is one of the NGO programs organized by St. Stephen's Gurugram Hospital. In Dhankot village, there are ‘SHG’, ‘SSY’, and ‘Federation’ loans. SHG members can use the loan service according to the purpose of family matters, hospital expenses, daughter's education expenses, family's job transition, and female members' business investment. The women of Dhankot village are actively using Federation, a high-amount loan program, to transform the digital society. SHG helps improve the quality of life of individuals through adaptation to the digital society and is leading financial inclusion in the era of 'Digital India' in the suburbs near Gurugram.
