Abstract

By evaporating the solution, crystals of two new fluoroborates, M(BF4)23H2O, M = Sr, Ba, were obtained. Their crystal structure was determined by single crystal diffractometry. Sr(BF4)23H2O crystallizes in the tetragonal system, while Ba(BF4)23H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. The crystal structure of these compounds is formed by isolated BF4 tetrahedra with alkali metal and water atoms between them. By fluorination of Li2B4O7, by its reaction with NH4BF4 in the range of 30–120 °C, NH4BF4, the fluoroborate Li2B3O4F3 was obtained.
