Abstract

This study is concerned with impoliteness in digital communication. Focusing on the discourse of comments in Greek food blogs, this paper is the first to examine impoliteness in the specific digital context. The paper draws upon the theoretical model of impoliteness as presented in Garces-Conejos Blitvich (2010) with the aim to identify the different forms and strategies of impoliteness, as well as to establish the functionality of this type of behaviour, in the data. It is argued that the cases of impoliteness identified in Greek food blogs are closely related to bloggers’ negotiation of power relations in the encounter.
