Abstract

This study aimed to develop an Empathy Improvement Program that may help promote the social relationships for rural elderly woman, and to assess the effects of the program. Through a focus group interview (FGI) and expert council, an eight session program that combines play and group art activities was developed based on empathy ability components (cognitive, emotional, and communicative factors). To verify the effectiveness of the developed program, the field application was carried out targeting elderly women in rural areas at five senior citizen community centers recommended by the Agricultural Technology Center. The results showed that the participants empathy ability and interpersonal relationship score became higher than those before the implementation of the program. This is statistically significant and verifies the program being effective.
