Abstract
The article examines the song genre in N. M. Karamzin’s lyrics. Only the works, which the author himself referred to the song genre, are analysed. The author’s techniques to reconstruct a song’s “image” and criteria for choosing the means of portrayal are identified. A musical component of the song genre and its influence while creating a song’s “portrait” are considered from the viewpoint of literary criticism. Style dominants typical of Karamzin’s songs are revealed. Mutual influence and genre evolution of classicistic and sentimentalistic artistic conceptions are examined. The conclusion is made that stylistic functionality of a language manifests itself clearly while creating a song’s image.
