Abstract

The article considers agricultural production on peasant farms of Arzamas district of Nizhny Novgorod province at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. Relying on previously unknown archival documents, the author clarifies information on popular agricultural systems and agricultural crops, on the use of fertilizers and equipment. The conclusion is made that the peasants sought to improve the productivity of their farms but their financial resources were insufficient. Special attention is paid to the problem of improving tillage and harvesting tools in Arzamas district.
