Abstract

The current research aims to know the extent to which the two books of science and biology for the intermediate stage in Iraq are included in the light of the six dimensions of understanding according to the Mctighe & Wiggens model, and follow the method of content analysis to achieve this goal, where a standard was built for the six dimensions of understanding (explanation, interpretation, application, perspective taking, Sympathy, and after self-knowledge), the number of analyzed pages reached (382) pages, and after completing the analysis and verifying its validity and stability, it was concluded that the two books of Science and Biology for the intermediate stage were the most interested in the six dimensions of understanding, as the proportion of the dimensions combined in each of the science book for the first intermediate grade (45%) As for the science book for the second grade, it is average (70%), and the third grade books are average (56). In light of the previous results, the researcher recommends paying attention to including science and biology books for the secondary stage with the six dimensions of understanding, and increasing the interest in measuring and developing the learners’ understanding because of its impact on their academic, professional and personal development
