Abstract

This study investigates how Korean English learners and native English speakers interpret English verb phrase telicity according to the preposition to. 241 Korean students and 37 native English speakers participated in this study. Experimental tasks were conducted which included three proficiency levels of L2 learners (beginner, intermediate and advanced), as well as native English speakers. The results of this study showed how learners and native speakers differentiate among English verb phrase telicity according to the p reposition to and indicated that the way most Korean English learners interpret English verb phrases is influenced by Korean. In addition, the results showed the precise aspect of interpretation of English verb phrase telicity.
